Welcome Back AMAer’s!

Hey AMAer’s! We hope you all are having a great first couple days of school! Remember to start off strong, to lower the stress levels later on in the semester. Speaking of starting off strong, if you guys have walked by the student bookstore this week, you would have noticed that AMA is working hard at the backpack check-in’s. Feel free to stop on by to say hi or to ask any questions about what we have planned for you all later in the semester!

First General Meeting

The day has come! Our first general meeting will be on September 8, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. in CBA Room 139! We cannot wait until we see all of your AMAzing faces and hear all of your crazy summer adventures. Feel free to invite any potential AMAer’s; this will be a general information meeting that will go over the fundamentals of our organization. We hope to see you all there!

AMA Car-Wash!

This Saturday August 30, 2014 we will be hosting a car wash event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Quality Assured Collision Center Inc. in Long Beach. We will have your car squeaky clean, in return for a donation! All proceeds will go towards our NOLA Conference trip in the Spring. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, even your new classmates! Hope to see you all there!

Final Spring Meeting!

This past Monday was our Final Meeting of the Spring Semester!

AMA’s 36th Annual International Collegiate Conference

-Take 5: Return of the Marketers-

On April 10-12, 2014, our CSULB chapter attended AMA’s 36th Annual International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. We were able to learn from established marketing professionals representing companies such as Hershey’s, Coca-Cola, Northwestern Mutual, Burger King, and many more. Although we had tough competitions against other AMAzing schools nationwide, CSULB came home with the following awards:

  • 2nd place: Best use of conference theme in our booth

  • Outstanding Marketing Week Activities

  • Placed top 15 chapters, out of 390 chapter nationwide!

  • Outstanding awards for: Marketing Week, Chapter Planning, Professional Development, Communications , Fundraising and Communications and Community Service

We would like to thank every single one of our AMAzing members and executive board members for the support the entire year! Our hard work paid off and remember, our success would not have been possible without you all! We couldn’t be any prouder of our team!

Vipe Desai: HDX

This past Monday was our Eight General Meeting of Spring Semester. Time passes by so fast, right?

Speaker: Vipe Desai

During the meeting we had the pleasure of having as our guest speaker Vipe Desai. Vipe is the CEO at HDX Hydration Mix,  the healthy sports drink that helps athletes replace water, electrolytes, and minerals before, during and after training or competition.

“Vipe Desai has held numerous roles in the action sports world over the years, and his tireless passion and entrepreneurial drive led to his latest project, HDX. Desai had been on the path of starting his own company for several years before circumstances, planets, tarot cards, and all signs pointed to the fact that the time was right to launch a beverage business with a twist. Vipe put his plan into action for HDX, which focuses on selling a specially-formulated, natural “hydration mix”—a powdered beverage that you add to water. HDX is targeting core action sports retailers with the value proposition of adding an additional revenue stream for shops with sales of the low calorie, vitamin enriched mix, as well as renewable water bottles which take up minimal counter space and offer keystone margins.” (Source: Business Transworld)

He is also Board of Director at Ocean Champions and Chairman of the Board at Rob Dyrdek Foundation.

Vipe’s passionate speech and life trajectory  left many of us inspired and willing to listen and learn more!

His advice to our members were simple yet extremely powerful and essential:

  • Always keep an open mind
  • Explore the world
  • If something goes wrong, learn from these experiences.

Sr. National Sales Leader

“Angelo grew up in Southern California.  He did his undergraduate work at the University of San Diego where he graduated in 1989 with a degree in communications and a minor in business administration. In addition to his undergraduate degree, he holds a Master’s of Business Administration from UC Irvine’s Paul Merage’s school of business.

Angelo has a strong history with Coca-Cola.  In his previous role as the Vice President of Business Development, he reconstructed the food service organization’s selling and account renegotiation process.  In addition, he managed the Region’s roll out of Freestyle, Coca-Cola’s most innovative platform in the last fifty years.  Prior to the business development role, Angelo managed Coke’s efforts in the airline channel where he drove share from 55% to over 90%.

In his current role, Angelo Lombardo manages all aspects of Coca-Cola’s West Region business with Sodexo, the nation’s fourth largest foodservice provider.  His duties include leading West Region personnel in the identification and maximization of new sales opportunities, the execution of marketing initiatives, and ensuring continuous profitable growth in both sales and volume.”

AMA PEOPLE BINGO

An icebreaker activity where AMA members interacted with each other by  introducing themselves, and finding people who match the traits on the card.

NOLA: BOOTH IDEAS CONTEST

AMA members were separated in seven teams and given the project assignment, to brainstorm ideas and come up with a  marketing plan for our booth at Nola 2014. The goal was to be creative, innovative and to work as a team! Each group selected two members to present their plan to the audience and some E-board members voted and selected the three best ideas.

It was a great opportunity to experience in first hand teamwork, creative planning and time management. AMA members exceeded expectations, showing how intelligent, creative and professional they are. Thank you for your collaboration and great ideas!
